EDITORS’ NOTES

Chet Baker's best known as a West Coast wonder, but this 1958 Manhattan session stands tall in his catalog. His light touch and laser-focused trumpet lines on the dreamy, starlit "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" and the gently pulsing, bittersweet "Blue Thoughts" are cool jazz in all its moody, minimalist glory. But when he darts around the brisk "Fair Weather" and "Hotel 49," propelled by Paul Chambers' burly bass and Philly Joe Jones' fiery drums, Baker shows he's also a bebop stylist nonpareil.

A Classic

Once again, Chet's amazing sound comes through this album. Chet's phenomenal phrasing shines through this recording. Being remastered it is almost as if Chet's right there in front of you and playing Polka Dots and Moonbeams straight at you. An musical journey of emotion and heart. This is a definite must for the jazz lover.

It's a toss-up...

I can't decide which album I love more...Jazz in Paris, Vol. 53 which I always considered a perfect album...a masterpiece... or this incredible set in New York where Baker struts his impeccable classic Jazz taste, phrasing, style and cool....This is the best music has to offer. Calm down, listen and lose yourself in the pure joy of this album. What I love about this work is that it doesn't only appeal to Jazz purists but it is universal in it's ability to be touched and enjoyed by even the most casual Jazz afficionado...

Great album with great musicians

Classic jazz from Chet Baker and a great backing group; I really love this album and think it might be his best. For the price, a real bargain.
