iTunes Review

James Blake offers an exquisite third album of minimalist soul with maximum heart. Giving up is hard to do, he sings just three songs in, but his pain is our gain: The British artist's determination to work through heartbreak yields a breakup album for the ages. Emphasizing skeletal piano, buzzing electronics, and Blake's cracking voice, it's even more affecting than his first two LPs, and more experimental, too. "Points" channels vocal loops into a lurching groove, while "Timeless" nods to dub reggae. The spine-tinglingly beautiful closer "Meet You in the Maze" distills catharsis into Auto-Tuned droplets of sound.

Smart and sophisticated

As electronic music moves more into the mainstream, James Blake is one of the several amazing artists to bring it back to the classic setting. For his age, he displays such maturity in all aspects of this record, and brings with it a very clean and rustic sound that I personally have never heard before. It is truly a marvel of electronic music, and anyone and everyone should buy it!

Classic Blake

Similar to everything he’s done previously with a more thoughtful, articulated approach; his maturation as an artist and producer is evident in the newest installment of his catalogue.

Blake's most mature album and a bonafide masterpiece

The writing on this album (aided by Frank Ocean and Justin Vernon) is impeccable. His other albums, lyrically, almost pale in comparison. The production is wild and experimental, but it often yields incredible moments of bliss and head rush. Definitely worth every cent.

Influenced by the likes of D'Angelo and Stevie Wonder along with Burial and Mount Kimbie, London-based producer, singer, and songwriter James Blake first gave the world a taste of his quirky, R&B-sampling strain of dubstep in 2009 when his Air & Lack Thereof 12" appeared on the Hemlock label. Blake received quite the endorsement when the heralded Soul Jazz label picked the track up for their Steppas' Delight 2 compilation that same year. Blake raised his profile every few months during 2010 -- something...
