iTunes Review

Trumpeter Christian Scott has emerged as not only a leading trumpeter of his generation but a composer and bandleader as well. The New Orleans native had a hot start with his debut album, Rewind That, earning a GRAMMY® nomination. He’s been a special guest of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke (whose “The Eraser” he covered) and played in bassist-producer Marcus Miller’s ‘80s Miles Davis tribute band. For his fourth studio album, the newly rechristened Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah (inspired by two Ghanaian cities) presents an ambitious double-length offering, with 20 compositions and three interludes. From the spirited “New New Orleans (King Adjuah Stomp)” about his hometown to the reflective “Kiel” about his filmmaker/photographer twin brother to the fiery “Jihad Joe,” Scott and his working quintet tirelessly stretch from jazz's traditional foundations to include many of today’s sounds and rhythms.

Dreamy and hard-edged at once, soundscapes to get lost in, grooves to tap toes to. I love this.
