La nuit des longs couteaux

La nuit des longs couteaux

Koriass is a veteran Quebec rapper, an outspoken feminist, and an all-around progressive thinker. But stardom can be a lot to bear, and the pressure of the spotlight took a toll on the MC. He comes clean on this fifth album, detailing his flaws over somber but slick production by Ruffsound and Philippe Brault. Opener “J-3000” finds him confronting his struggles with substance abuse, relationships, fame, and fatherhood over a spare beat and soulful Kim Carnes sample. He picks up the pace on the head-bobbing “Cinq à sept,” admitting to alcohol-soaked self-loathing, albeit with a rugged cadence and rock-solid flow. He does, however, find redemption: Flanked by his pal FouKi, he proclaims himself the greatest of all time on the giddy, clever joyride "Lait de chèvre”—which, for those following along in English, translates as “Goat’s Milk.”
