Customer Reviews

This is a great record. The band is breaking new ground but with solid grounding in familiar (not tired) musical traditions. Jazz is jazz, and quite frankly, it can be familiar to the point of a yawn. This is not that kind of jazz. This is jazz with a fresh twist in new territory that will get your groove on. I saw Lefebvre and Carlock with Wayne Krantz a while back in New York and the passion shows. This is definitely something to download and a band to keep an eyeball on.

Rudder is Burning !!!

Can't stop playing this one over and over. As a fan of Miles in the 70's, James Brown, as well as improvised music of all types, I've been waiting a long time for the music of today to get on the goodfoot. These guys have made intelligent music that also speaks to the BODY ! Some of the deepest grooves I've ever experienced. Thank you Rudder.

Rudder keeps the music headed in the right direction

I have yet to have hear anything that is nearly as edgy and as fresh as Rudder in the past year or so-in fact, so much so that I have been listening to this as much as my auditory senses will allow. Having first become aware of them through Carlock and Lefebvre, the two men who serve as the basic rhythm section for the band(establishing theirselves in Wayne Krantz's band from 97-03), the mere mention of their name deems a groove that is feared and revered by most professional musicians and rhythm sections in music. The writing is absolutely fabulous, as the groove that is established around it seems to make the music inescapable to the ear, yet I ask why anyone would want to. Personal Favorites: the extremely layed back odd timer "Sk8" and the neo-Organ Trio sounding "Lopez".
