iTunes Editors’ Notes

2010’s There Is Love in You is the first Four Tet full-length since 2005. But the British electronica artist Kieran Hebden — a.k.a. Four Tet — has been very busy in the interim. As well as creating mixes for various artists, Hebden collaborated with the jazz drummer Steve Reid on a series of interesting albums. Returning to his solo project, Hebden presents nine subtle and efficient tracks, and There Is Love’s 47 minutes go by in a breeze. The appropriately titled opener, “Angel Echoes,” places a heavenly female voice over a steady beat and a number of tasteful sonic details. In place of dramatic build-up, Hebden offers a blissful stasis that continually morphs in quiet ways. The longest cut, “Love Cry” has an atmospheric intro, but then a driving beat kicks in. Above the groove, sustained notes and synthy burbles float, and above that, chopped-up female vocals unfold. It all adds up to create a hypnotic gem. “Circling”’s interlocking patterns and steady pulse evoke both American minimalism and Krautrock, and the album closes with “She Just Likes to Fight,” which features sweet-toned guitar and clattering percussion.

Another Solid Album by Kieran!!!

Kieran Hebden is an incredible composer. He has demonstrated this many times in the past, all the way back to pause, and on up through his discography. He can write a beautiful electronic song, and also keep it interesting and fluid. This could be seen as possibly one of his simplest albums at a first glance (after all, many songs only have 3 or 4 items running at one time), but after a few listens, the songs open up to a whole other atmosphere... a whole new place. They really are incredibly complex and it shows that a lot of work definitely went into the making of this album. My favorite attribute of Four Tet's music is because it is so natural. Although there is completely electronic and machine-like perfection in each of the songs (except for the drumming, usually), there is also alot of room in the music, solid, but at the same time very wandering and surprising. This is a beautiful and excellent album, definitely one of Hebden's best.

MAAAN go get this album like yesterday! If you are a musicologist this is a must have. PLease don't sleep on the 30 sec promos; make moves with anyone of these tracks. Guranteeeeeeed bliss... I can't write anymore (im four tettinout)

Spawned by the urge to do something apart from his post-rock band Fridge, Kieran Hebden's Four Tet project balances organic and programmed sounds. Hebden formed Fridge with Sam Jeffers and Adem Ilhan while still in high school. When Fridge went on temporary hiatus for Jeffers and Ilhan to attend college, Hebden spent time playing with ideas gained from hip-hop and electronica that he hadn't had time to develop. Eager to experiment, Hebden bought a computer and began collecting drum and sound samples....
