8 Songs, 37 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

This is an odd release in the Aerosmith catalog. Their former record label issued it in 1986, at a time after the band reunited with their original line-up and were back in the public’s attention. Some of the live recordings are taken from shows with replacement guitarists Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay handling Joe Perry’s and Brad Whitford’s parts, while others feature the original line-up. “Major Barbra” is a strong studio outtake. The choice of tunes is standard Aerosmith. “Train Kept A-Rollin’,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On,” “Mama Kin” and “Lord of the Thighs” are all classic crowd-pleasers, while the dramatic “Kings and Queens” is one of the band’s most ambitious tunes. “Three Mile Smile / Reefer Head Woman” is an unexpected selection, but the inspired performance makes it a welcomed surprise.
