Album cover says it all...

The speaker on the album cover is exactly what mine look like after playing this one...It smokes from start to finish...Pepper singing was the missing piece all along for this band...The riffs are gargantuan and weld themselves to your brain...As "Sabbathy" as it is at times, its a very nimble album...Its not overly weighty or heavy...There is also a very noticeable Southern Rock/Lynyrd Skynyrd vibe to this album...Its very apparent on songs like Albatross and Seven Days...

The production/engineering of the album is perfect...It knocks the tops off the high end, which re-inforces the albums mood and intensity...The guitars sound perfect...Its a pefect combination of great lyrics, voclas, riffs, and weed...

The real hidden gem is Shelter...Never has a steel guitar been used so effectively and hauntingly...

Hmm

I love CoC, but I really wish they'd lay off the anti-Christian stuff.

Best album of it's genre ever

Love Clutch, Crowbar, and Down, but w/Pepper on vocals, turning on a new tempo as they mature out of their speed-metal youth, COC creates a southern-metal album that has it all. Must be listened to from the beginning, all the way to the whistling at the end of Pearls Before Swine. The intensity of the Lyrics/Vocals, and the power/beauty of the guitars makes this one of my top five albums of all time.
