iTunes Review

Long Island’s Mountain rose from the ashes of The Vagrants and, as leader/guitarist Leslie West said, they wanted their music to sound like Cream’s Disraeli Gears. It didn’t hurt that the album’s producer, classically trained Felix Pappalardi, joined Mountain on bass and produced. So this 1970 debut launched a million dirty rock and boogie bands. The landslide guitars and searing vocals on the classic “Mississippi Queen” and its doppelganger “Never in My Life” are untouchable. The psych of “Sliver Paper” stings, and fetching left turns like “The Laird” and the Cream-esque “Boys in the Band” make Climbing! a classic.

Great Rock Album

If you're looking for an album that really rocks from start to finish, this it. Don't just get the hit's, you'll be happy with the whole thing.

Way Back When

These guy were a 4-man power band when bands were a dime a dozen. They often played smaller venues but never disappointed an audience. The soulful input from all four of the members brought many a concert hall to its feet. This was truly a rock-till-ya-drop band. I remember walking from the Capital Theatre in Port Chester New York during the winter of 71' totally exhausted! These guys earned their money! They just don't make em like this anymore. After Felix died they were never the same.

Pure 70s Boogie Rock/Southern Rock/Proto Metal.

Wow.That is the word you are going to say after you hear the WHOLE album.Dont just by Mississisppi Queen(It still rocks, but very overated).Silver paper is my favorite song on the album. But all the songs dispay great intrumental skill, powerfull vocals and anthemic melodies. Also Leslie West is a very underated guitarist just ask Micheal Schenker(UFO,MSG)Rhandy Rhoads*RIP( pre fame Quiet Riot,Ozzy Osbourne).West has mastered the art of Harmonics.

The breakup of Cream in late 1968 had consequences that rippled across the rock music world -- in its wake were formed directly such bands as Blind Faith (whose tragedy was they never had a chance to actually become a band) and Ginger Baker's Air Force, as well as the rich solo careers of members Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce. And it yielded -- by way of Cream associate and producer Felix Pappalardi -- something of a successor band in 1969, in the form of Mountain. The band's history all started with...
