iTunes Review

Parmalee’s major-label debut, Feels Like Carolina, is the work of a road-seasoned band ready for the big time. Named for their North Carolina home base, the quartet play modern country with a pronounced rock accent, giving them considerable crossover potential. Lead singer/guitarist Matt Thomas radiates a natural charisma that combines swagger with a guy-next-door vibe. The band plays with more grit than most mainstream country acts—songs like “Musta Had a Good Time” (a rambunctious post-party anthem) and “I’ll Bring the Music” (a celebration of beer, tunes, trucks, and other good things) deliver plenty of crunchy lead guitar riffage. When Parmalee serves up a ballad like “Think You Oughta Know” or their Top 10 hit “Carolina,” they suggest a heavier version of harmony-driven groups like Lonestar and Rascal Flatts. What’s consistent throughout is a positive attitude about relationships, captured both lyrically and musical in such breezy numbers as “Day Drinkin’” and “Already Callin’ You Mine.” The album’s poignant closer, “Another Day Gone,” reflects on passing time and missed chances.

Mostly Good & A Lot Exceptional

There are some really amazing tracks on here, some really good, and a couple of really bad. The good definitely far outweighs the bad.

If you don't want to get the whole cd, then I recommend the following tracks for download:

Already Calling You Mine
Another Day Gone
Day Drinking
Close Your Eyes
Think You Oughta Know

Really I like 9/12 songs. I'm sorry but Musta Had a Good Time and I'll Bring the Music really make me cringe. Also not fond of Move, but it might grow on me. Everything else on the CD is really really good or exceptional. So glad iTunes radio helped me find them.

Best new album

I have been waiting what seems like forever for this album. These guys are great and even better in concert. A great blend of country and southern rock. A definite MUST BUY!

Genre: Country

Parmalee is a tight-knit Southern country-rock band consisting of brothers Matt Thomas (guitar, vocals) and Scott Thomas (drums), cousin Barry Knox (bass), and childhood friend Josh McSwain (guitar, keyboards), all of whom grew up together near Greenville, North Carolina. The brothers' father had a local band, and by the time they were teenagers, they were a part of it, gigging as Jerry Thomas & the Thomas Brothers Band, and Knox was recruited aboard as well. When the elder Thomas retired from playing,...
