Editors’ Notes

While the Calgary-bred twins have a catalog rooted in indie-rock and folk-tinted tunes, they’ve been flashing a penchant for crafting incredibly catchy cuts the whole time (highlighted by 2007’s “Back in Your Head”)—plus, Sara has co-written for pop sensation Carly Rae Jespen. The siblings’ seventh album, Heartthrob, arrives after they’ve been collaborating with electronic heavyweights including David Guetta and Tiësto—a telltale sign that Tegan and Sara are increasingly embracing dance pop. To create Heartthrob, the pair teamed with all-star producers—including Greg Kurstin (P!nk, Kelly Clarkson) and Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Paramore). The outcome includes many sparkling, love-themed dance jams that immediately hook listeners with an enviable one-two punch: The opener, “Closer,” boasts icy-cool sass atop buzzing synths and effervescent electronic accouterments, while the melody on “Goodbye, Goodbye” is like a mix between an Atari soundtrack and MGMT-inspired riff. The deluxe version includes two bonus tracks and the “Closer” video.

Old to New

it's true this is very different from their old stuff, which i grew up listening to, but this doesn't mean it's horrible. i love their new direction. they're growing as artists and they're moving with the music industry. this album may lose a few fans who have their old music to listen to and this album may gain some new fans who will go back and also love their old stuff.

They are perfect perfects end of story.

Always amazing!

I have been listening to Tegan and Sara for over ten years now and my favorite aspect of their music is how every album is different. If you are a true fan and have been really paying attention to the progression of their sound then you will not be surprised by Heartthrob. They have always experimented, which besides their albums you can also see in how different Tegan's songs are from Sara's and vice versa. They are two individuals who have changed and grown over the years, are they not allowed to do this? I for one love a wide range of music and I am sure they do as well. This album is just as amazing as everything that they have ever done!!

An award winning, internationally successful indie pop duo comprised of identical siblings Tegan and Sara Quin, Tegan and Sara first burst onto the Canadian music scene in 1998, when they earned the highest score in history at Calgary's "Garage Warz" competition; their quick rise didn't stop, for their melodic acoustics and charming stage personas led to a slew of dates with Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair that same year and a record deal with Neil Young's Vapor Records in April 2000.
