This is not the Escape Club from before!

This is a somewhat interesting album that I would classify as a mix between new age and electronica closer to Tangerine Dream albums. None of the snap and vigor from their first two albums is here and it sounds like a completely different band.

Someone bought a new music workstation

This is not the Escape Club that I was looking for. This is like someone bought themselves a new used keyboard and music workstation and tried out the new instrument sets. That, or Escape Club decided to do bad Amiga MODs for awhile. I mean, synth pan flutes? Delerium and Deep Forest milked those out completely out in the 90's.

This is clearly an experiment, and someone might like it, but not me.

Different but good

As other reviewers mentioned this is not the same sound you will find on earlier albums by the band but unlike the other reviewers I think that is actually ok and I like this Album quite a lot. As I listen to it it does bring to mind the music of other bands I like such as the Alan Parsons Project and indeed the start of Diving for Pearls does remind me a bit of Tangerine Dream as one reviewer says. All of this said, if you take this album as a stand a lone work, and get over the fact that it is not another set of songs from the exact same vein as Wild Wild West I actually think it is a very nice piece of musical work. Given it was recorded in 2003, over ten years after the earlier albums, I think a bit of freshness to the sound is both justified and well executed. If you have not already, try this with headphones on, there is a lot of subtlety that I missed before listening to it that way. Anyway, for me, this album works and I like it quite a lot.

Topping the charts with their first single in America, England's Escape Club were hardly an overnight sensation, having been together for five years before their breakthrough. The group formed from the remnants of two groups, the Espressos and Mad Shadows, which had both been gaining momentum in London clubs before suffering personnel changes. Lead singer Trevor Steel and lead guitarist John Holliday were members of Mad Shadows, but when their drummer left, Espressos drummer Milan Zekavica was invited...
