Album Review

For Green is a bit of a mixed affair. Felix Cabrera plays fine blues harmonica on some numbers, imitates Bob Dylan in his vocal on "Please Crawl Out Your Window," leads a jumping party scene on "Animalism," and is at his best on bluesy ballads. Much of the music on this date is rather conventional folk/light rock and, with two exceptions, all of the songs were written or co-composed by Cabrera. The band shows the most spirit on the hotter and more blues-oriented songs, such as "She Put Him On a Diet" and "Josephine." One can imagine Cabrera's group being fun to see in concert or at parties. His CD is fine for background music and dancing, but does not reward repeated listenings. However, the potential is there for the future if they perform stronger songs.
