Kanye West Presents Good Music Cruel Summer

“To the World” kicks off with an orchestra of Auto-Tuned vocals as West, R. Kelly, and Teyana Taylor eschew sticking it to the man for a R&B/hip-hop hybrid that sticks it to the entire globe. “Mercy.1” gets more ruthless with Pusha T & 2 Chainz, creating a deeply downtuned vocal beast. Ghostface Killah likens himself to a deity in “New God Flow.1” before the closing “Don’t Like.1” gives Chicago gang shootings their very own soundtrack.
Lets be honest with ourselves..
As a G.O.O.D Music fanatic, I have to say that I am BEYOND disspointed with this album. Everyone, you can stop boosting the album because everyone's feelings are mutual: this is not completed. When annoucned the album garnered so much buzz that one could only expect it to be album of the year and quite possibly of the decade. Now the album has leaked, but even based simply on the samples we can assume that this was not the original expectation we all had. The album lacks a sense of direction and G.O.O.D Music AFFILIATES were featured more than or over actual artists on the label (such as 2 Chainz over Common and Mr. Hudson removed completely).
Based on rumors, Kanye West has diligently been in the studio flying in artists from A$AP Rocky to Frank Ocean to Azealia Banks and Mos Def to many more and we ASSUMED they would play a role in this compilation, but now I'm thinking that is more so for his 6th studio effort.
As for Cruel Summer, I see no need in deeming it a "classic," or even a "good" album at that (no pun intended). I feel that it was rushed and the team made an executive decision to stick to the September 18th release date rather than, which in this case I would be happier for, pushing it back again to release quality. I see no previous Kanye-like influence nor style from any of the members. It almost seems that they just gave up and assumed that it would sell because of who they are (i.e. Big Sean, Kanye West, JAY Z, KiD CuDi, etc.)
To conclude, I wouldn't waste money purchasing the entire album. This is a lot coming from me who as purchased every G.O.O.D Music artistes album and supported them thoroughly, not because I feel like I have to like the entire team, but because they simply release quality music and lyrical content. The standout tracks, and this is by force of liking, are The Morning (but you could probably do without), Sin City and Bliss are the best with everything considered but even they are just subpar.
Here's to rushing past this and praying that all the work that happened in the studio is actually being archived for Watch the Throne, Pt. 2 and/or Kanye West's 6th studio album. This one should be shelved.
It's all GOOD..
though I am beyond excited to hear this album, it just seems to lack in so many different ways. Only 12 tracks, and we've already heard 5 of them... The absence of Qtip, Mr. Hudson and Mos Def make for a really incomplete G.O.O.D Music album. Kanye should've been on more of the tracks as well as giving the bigger name artist from the group such as Cudi and Common more spots throughout the album. As far as the new songs that we haven't yet heard, they're ok, but they lack power and excitement. Coming from Kanye it's easy to expect a powerful album, and unless these tracks don't deliver in their entirety, or if kanye doesnt put out any bonus tracks then Kanye really didn't deliver on this highly anticipated project.
G.O.O.D. Music over everything
