Album Review

Sony BMG's Collections features ten tracks from popular Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler, including three of her four most notable hits, "Total Eclipse of the Heart," "Faster Than the Speed of Night," and "Holding Out for a Hero." While this scant anthology will work for the average listener, fans looking for a more comprehensive collection, specifically one that also includes cuts like "It's a Heartache" and "Lost in France" from her RCA years, would be better off with 2006's From the Heart: Greatest Hits.

Retitled Collection

This cd containing the best of the two lp's recorded for Sony and a track each from two soundtracks she appeared on, "Footloose" and "Metropolis" was first released in the Sony series "Super Hits" in 1999. A Myriad of artists who recorded for Sony received the same treatment way too many to list. The mastering is okay, nothing to shout about but the plus is all the songs are in their original lp length, not an annoying edit anywhere. The one song I wish was on here as a repeat or bonus track is the club mix of "Holding Out For A Hero," it's a touch longer and the bass lines a bit "punchier." I believe that mix is available here on iTunes as part of a Sony budget collection of their disco holdings. For a sampling of Bonnie's 80's recordings I'd start here because of the improved sound quality over the original cd issues.

The surgery left her with a raspy, husky voice that proved an effective instrument and drew notice from writer/producers Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe, who became her managers. Tyler...
