Reseña de álbum

An album title like Urban Angel might lead you to expect a smooth and silky R&B diva, but what you get on the solo debut by Daughter Darling alumna Natalie Walker is actually something more along the lines of a less downtown Syd Straw, or maybe a less British Portishead. The production team of Stur creates arrangements for Walker that manage to give equal weight to her sweet, clear voice and their backing tracks, tracks that are funky and elegant at the same time. The mood is generally kind of glum, but not always completely pessimistic: the title track is sad and lovely, while "Rest Easy" picks up the tempo a little bit while keeping the mood quite subdued. "No One Elsa" combines faintly glitchy beats with a gossamer arrangement of harp, piano, strings and breathy backing vocals to very nice effect, and "Quicksand" incorporates what almost sound like Fripp-ertronic-style guitars. Near the end, on the beautiful "Not the End," Walker's sadness comes with a certain degree of optimism as she gently encourages a downcast friend. Overall, this is a very impressive debut from a major talent. Highly recommended.

Rest Easy

This album, although it has its ups and downs, deserves 5 stars for two tracks alone (although the rest of the album is preeminently listenable in super-relaxed mode): "Rest Easy", the best 'poptronica' I've heard all year, and the fabulous cover of "Colorblind". Better than the original. Anyone who makes a cover better than the original deserves 5 stars in my book :p

OMG!!! Shes pure beauty!

Wow, its been SO long since Ive come across such a beautiful voice. The electronic sounds are lush and her voice melts into it. This is a must! Songs like the dreamy "Quicksand" (MY personal Favorite), the light trip-hop "No One Else", the Wicher Parkish "Urban Angel" and the electronica "Red" show off her best skills as a songwriter, vocalist, and musician all together.

Beyond the Pale... so, so lovely!

I've always admired when an artist pulls from deep within themselves and bares their personal and intimate soul with others. Whether it draws the most complex thoughts you feel inside, Natalie's words from the heart reaches you and connects. I can literally send myself somewhere else with her musical creations. How can you pick a favorite when the entire piece is one incredible heartfelt song... this is bliss at its best! You can't let this one slip through the cracks, it's timeless music that 5, 10 years down the road will continue to deliver the same feeling as when first purchased. This is just what I was waiting for... thank you! Sweetestvibe

Indiana-born singer and songwriter Natalie Walker first came to prominence as part of the group Daughter Darling. While her time in the low-key, electronica trip-hop outfit was promising, Walker decided on a solo career, and released her first album as such in 2006. Entitled Urban Angel, the album was produced by the duo Stuhr (Dan Chen and Nate Greenberg), and made minor waves commercially, but it was a pair of songs from the full-length that helped to bolster Walker's career, one of which —...
