iTunes Review

Robert Randolph learned his trade as a pedal steel guitarist at his Orange, NJ church and his group made an immediate impact on the jam-band circuit, opening for the North Mississippi All-Stars and Medeski, Martin & Wood. Up until now, their recordings have focused on capturing the group’s dexterous improvisatory skills and their boundless energy. With their second studio album (and third overall), the Family still primarily fly the jam-band flag, but they do so with a greater ear towards making sure the song doesn’t get lost in the maze of solos. A few guests stop by – Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews – and songwriting credits include a number of veteran names, but it’s still Randolph’s show.  It’s his thick tone that smothers these tracks and cousin Marcus Randolph’s drums that cement these grooves. While the band play in the here and now, their influences are clearly born from ‘70s textures. “Angels” touches on Gamble & Huff Philly Soul, while “Diane” sources the ghosts of Funkadelic.  It’s a soulful brew all around.

Refreshing New Talent!!!

I first saw Robert and the Family Band on Regis & Kelly performing "Thrill of It". I was awstruck by the artristry displayed by Robert and the members of his band. Not since Dave Matthews Band have I seen a group as original and musical. Their music seems to be influenenced by Blues and Funk with the driving force of Rock, which is undoubtably why ITMS classifies this album in the Rock genre. It's wonderful to see a goup of musicians who know how to craft a song, unlike the other acts today that just keep repeating the 'hook' over and over again. Thank you Robert and Company for giving us something more interesting to listen too!!!

Unbelievable

This album is incredible. Anyone that likes funk, rock n roll and good ol' upbeat jams should seriously consider buying this album. Of course don't buy it on the itunes music store, the quality is crap. I am an avid music fan and from someone who loves music, and thinks he knows music, I recommend this album to anyone that likes good, uplifting, rockin, funky tunes. I don't know what else to say but that this album ROCKS...god I wish I wrote a better review but seriously, people.....check it out...and get ready to dance.
