Addition Admonition

I really had a hard time with "Through the Hill", Dr Budd's cocomposition with Andy Partridge. It made me feel like I was sick with a cold (though I guess it's OK to want to get into that congested headspace sometimes) and it was - just very clogged and bad-dreamy. Here, now, is something different entirely - I actually came upon this by searching for some iTunes U stuff on Cy Twombley, this artist I'm unfortunately starting to like very much. One of the songs here is "...after" him. It's pretty good. Does it sound like Cy paints? Who knows? But......It struck me, just by listening to these previews, that Andy Partridge could really bring something to this material. Something good, and something different. Obviously, that's beside the point; it's a done deal. However, it'd be great to see 'em try again. I felt a lot better after reading an interview with Mr Partridge where he stated that he enjoyed the work they did, but it felt very rushed, like the record Co. stuck them together for a day or two in a studio and said "Produce!"; who can create like that? So maybe now that time and money are immaterial, they could do it again, and write pastoral ambient psychedelia-without-fuzz music about how Cy Twombley makes 'em feel.

Thank You, Harold!

The sound of this record reminds me somewhat of one of my most cherished musical possessions: Delhi 9 by Tosca. I can't wait to take Harold's Journey.

I liked some cuts

Good listening, but not every selection great, of which I found 'Greek George' to be the superior cut.

The American ambient/neo-classical composer who has most closely allied himself with the increasingly sympathetic independent rock underground -- through his collaborations with the Cocteau Twins' Robin Guthrie -- Harold Budd is also one of the very few who can very rightly be called an ambient composer. His music, a sparse and tonal wash of keyboard treatments, was inspired by a boyhood spent listening to the buzz of telephone wires near his home in the Mojave Desert town of Victorville, CA (though...
