Solid step back into the U.S. market!

Last attempt at penetrating the American market didn't end up so nicely for Utada. She had great songs, but the genre wasn't very favorable in terms of the American music-listening majority. Of course, anime-lovers, video game enthusiasts, and Japanophiles supported it, but 'Exodus' ended up being a major disappointment, as far as music and physical sales went. Trying to force a "sexy" style, not having enough promotions, and having lyrics that were very poetic but too complex were some of the major mistakes that Utada made five years ago. Now, the J-pop genius is back, and this time she's got a solid vendetta: make amends where she fell last time and re-attempt to get her name out into the American mass (not just the Jpop fans). "Come Back to Me" has a wonderful composition; it's soothing, has a very nice R&B yet ballad-ish feel. Utada does an excellent job of executing the vocals, although a few listeners will definitely complain about her trembly vibrato and crackly high-notes, she does not fail to deliver her story and her emotions. Plus, may it be reminded that the composition genius has wrote the lyrics to this song, as well as having composed it. I refrained from giving it five stars, just because I know that there will be reviewers who will not like her vibrato and her high notes (which can at times be shrill). But, she definitely deserves every bit of the other four stars. Fan or not, give it a try. You'll probably like it.

Utada's Come Back- With a BANG!

Well, this is the moment so many of us have been waiting for. Utada's first single off of her upcoming second (or third) English-language album has been the cause of much anticipation amongst her fans around the world. For roughly a year, ever since hints about the album began leaking onto the internet and elsewhere, we have been waiting for this moment. And, as always, Utada does not disappoint. Although lyrically it is not the most powerful work of Utada's collection, "Come Back to Me" is gorgeous nonetheless. Produced by the wonderful Stargate duo, "Come Back to Me" features Utada's feathery, romantic voice carried over a slow pop-ballad about the hardships of breaking up and moving on. She sings with passion as an assortment of classic, but powerfully mixed, R&B sounds back up the heartfelt words of love and loss that, despite being somewhat plain, give this song the enjoyable, sentimental feel it retains long after Utada's voice has faded. From the first impression of the car-crash piano scale in the beginning to the final, soft "la-la-la"s of this song, "Come Back to Me" is fun, light, and an all around terrific track that will surely capture the attention of both the just-turned twenty-six-year old's devoted fans and those who may not yet have experienced the musical sensation that is Utada. With "Come Back to Me", there is no doubt that Utada has "come back" to us with every bit of the soulful passion we have come to expect of her and praise her for. Perhaps nothing anyone can do can change the past, but I am more than eager to see what Utada's future brings to bear for all of us. Love, love, and more love is all I have for this song.

Excellent release!

Excellent song by a sweet and talented artist! The vocals are smooth, the music and rhythm is great... and the song itself is just a breath of fresh air from Utada. This single will go places, I believe.
