I Just Plain Ole Like It

Quite a surprising record. Never expected much, but I just like it. I enjoy every cut but one (Heat) on this. You will recognize the song 'Its Bad You Know"..and 'Shuck Dub', 'Let My Baby Ride', and 'Come on In' are fun. A bit of old blues and new hip loops added on some. Will be one of the most unique group of songs on one album that you will hear. I find I play it often...sometimes you need to take a chance to try something you know little about...this was one of those times for me and I don t regret the purchase at all!!

'Updating' The Blues

R.L. Burnside is a blues musician from the deep south who generally was on the outside looking in on any major record deals until he was into his 60s. There isn't really anything on this CD that is new. Many of the tunes were on 'A*s Pocket' [which he did with Jon Spencer] or 'Too Bad Jim'. Of course, those were rehashes of tunes R.L. did 40 years ago.

Anyway, these are remixes--which are a rarity to say the least on blues CDs. That being said, it is highly enjoyable. Recommended

Good Stuff

I'm no professional.. but to me.. This is the "stuff"!! When I think of "blues" I want it to have "soul" and R.L Burnside definitely has got it right!

North Mississippi guitarist R.L. Burnside was one of the paragons of state-of-the-art Delta juke joint blues. The guitarist, singer and songwriter was born November 23, 1926 in Oxford, MS, and made his home in Holly Springs, in the hill country above the Delta. He lived most of his life in the Mississippi hill country, which, unlike the Delta region, consists mainly of a lot of small farms. He learned his music from his neighbor, Fred McDowell, and the highly rhythmic style that Burnside plays is...
