13 Songs, 27 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

After an extended absence, electronica pioneer Aphex Twin re-emerged with the dense rhythms and intricate melodies of 2014’s justly celebrated Syro. As the follow-up to a long-awaited comeback album, the rigorously conceptual Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments pt2 seems at first like a typically perverse move, with Aphex mastermind Richard D. James stripping away the musical richness of Syro for a series of stark miniatures built around clattering drumkits and clanking pianos. While this might sound like a recipe for egghead electronic music at its most austere, the results occasionally have the gorgeous but haunted quality of his celebrated ambient releases. And the best tracks are often strangely funky, faintly recalling grimy vintage hip-hop, polyrhythmic postpunk, and old-school Chicago house.

Dismantling of a track

I don't think people are realizing what we have here- but this is actually "Diskhat ALL prepared1mixed 13" and then pieces of all the instruments and layers that went into making that track.
The track: "Piano un10 it happened" might also be a stand-alone track, but it could also be mixed in somewhere in the lead track.
So basically you get 1 actual track- but it's cool that the different elements can stand on their own.

If I think this is what I think it is then WOW.

Cornish Wonderment

This was a pleasant surprise! I received an email alerting me to this album and rushed to download.

It seems like he’s been dipping into his old material. Maybe he’s lazy, but who cares, it’s still wonderful. Let’s not forget the smattering of unreleased oldies that is Syro.

I had a much more immediate like for this than I did for Syro, probably ‘cause of the Druqs like feel.

I’m a huge fanboy and have been for a few decades, and this just makes me very happy!
