Album Review

Music from The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings features selections from each of the first four (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King) films in the series. Fans of director Peter Jackson's vision of Middle Earth and composer Howard Shore's award-winning score will recognize all of the tracks, yet should keep in mind that they are not the versions that appear in the films or official soundtracks, though the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra does an admirable job in interpreting them.

A few minor things...

Howard Shore is a complete genius, but there are a few things I'm not so sure about it. I see how he's including the three vocal songs from each of the movies, but I'd leave "Gollum's Song" off the list. I thought a less melodramatic part could've been written for the main vocals in Lord of the Rings. Plus, please edit the ninth track on this album from "Forth EORLUNGAS/Isengard Unleashed" to "Forth Eorlingas/Isengard Unleashed." I think the Rohirrim would be horrified to know their people were renamed as a body part, or something sounding like a bronchial disease. Overall, powerful and astounding, brings a legend to life.

I own all three soundracks form the movies, and this is an excellent selection of songs from the spectacular triology. I have to say that Howard Shore is a complete genius, and I hope to see him in more movies in the future. All in all, this is a great buy if you want to sample some fantastic score from the Lord of the Rings triology.

A good compilation of the best scores from all three of the Lord of the Rings movies. Most definately worth buying.
