About David Finck

Bassist David Finck is an in-demand sideman and performer with a bevy of jazz and pop credits to his name. Born in Rochester, New York in 1958, Finck studied privately with both Michael Shahan and Sam Goradetzer of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Later, he earned his degree from Eastman School of Music and toured with Woody Herman before moving to New York in 1981. Since the '80s, he has built an impressive array of credits performing and/or recording with such artists as Michel Legrand, Tony Bennett, Tom Harrell, Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Rod Stewart, Ivan Lins, Dionne Warwick, Steve Kuhn, Rosemary Clooney, Jon Secada, James Moody, Paquito D'Rivera, Eliane Elias, André Previn, and many more. As a leader, he made his debut in 2008 with the quartet album Future Day, featuring vibraphonist Joe Locke, pianist Tom Ranier, and drummer Joe La Barbera. Three years later, he paired with pianist Roger Davidson for the tribute album Umbrellas & Sunshine: The Music of Michel Legrand. Finck delivered two albums in 2017: Low Standards, featuring pianist Gary Versace, drummer Carl Allen, and others; and The Deep, a duo effort with pianist Shelly Berg. ~ Matt Collar
