EDITORS’ NOTES

AURORA might hail from Norway, but you’d be forgiven if you mistook her as a fairy from the Scottish highlands. As a singer, she’s utterly enchanting on her breakout tune, “Runaway,” which takes celtic new age and injects it with dreamy, modern pop songcraft. But she can shift in an instant from pixie lilt to a confident strut on the sun-drenched pop-rocker “Conqueror.” To witness her vocal transformation across All My Demons Greeting Me—from subdued and nuanced to over-the-top epic—is breathtaking.

Haunting, Beautiful, Dark

Eliot Wolf,

When I discovered AURORA a few weeks ago, she instantly became a new favorite of mine. All of her songs — whether it’s the beautiful “Runaway,” the soulful “Lucky,” or the urgent “Running with the Wolves” — have left me in awe. And aside from having a beautiful voice, AURORA has managed to perfect a style like no other — one that is dark and cold but floats along easily with a light airiness. The songs we’ve heard from the album so far are extraordinary; I have no doubt that AURORA will continue to deliver with the rest of the record as well.

Breathtaking

willstahh,

Aurora's art has the ability to intoxicate with the authentic emotions that she expresses. She invites a sense of peace that allows you to wholeheartedly join her during her whimsical adventures. Music seems to come so naturally to her; the way she performs is so raw and passionate it leaves you lost for words.

This album, while dark and haunting, is also a breath of fresh air; It combines pop, folk and electronic elements with Aurora's Celtic-like melodies to produce an entirely new genre that the music industry desperately needs.

About AURORA

Norwegian pop singer/songwriter Aurora Aksnes (aka AURORA) released her debut single, "Awakening," in late 2013. With her frosty electronic textures, spare beats, and clear, emotive vocals, the young Bergen native works in a similar dark pop milieu as artists like Oh Land, Lykke Li, and Lorde. Honing her live show and building on the momentum of her first single, Aksnes issued the follow-up single "Under Stars" in late 2014 and announced that she had signed with American label Glassnote. Her debut EP, Running with the Wolves, was released in the spring of 2015. The young singer/songwriter then came to further prominence, having covered the Oasis track "Half the World Away" for the 2015 John Lewis Christmas ad before following up with her debut full-length, All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend, in 2016. It debuted at number one in Norway and charted across Western Europe. ~ Timothy Monger
