Editors’ Notes

One of the most talented singers of any era, k.d. lang has flirted with so many styles that everyone has a different impression or preference towards her career. Some hear a gifted purebred country singer, while others hear a nightclub torch singer. Any of her studio albums shows off her vocal talents, but this collection does a fine job of bringing together some of her finest moments in one place. “Constant Craving” (which the Rolling Stones nicked for the chorus of “Has Anybody Seen My Baby”), perfect duets with Roy Orbison on “Crying,” Tony Bennett on “Moonglow” and Jane Siberry with “Calling All Angels,” and virtuoso performances of the Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers / The End” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” make a case for lang’s incredible versatility and show the respect that others hold for her in the recording industry. The Deluxe Edition includes live recordings from a radio broadcast at Malibu PAC that prove her talent is no fluke, as her stylized take on Neil Young’s “Helpless” is pretty, powerful and wild.

Customer Reviews

Finally!

Simply an amazing woman..... We love kd, and this record is packed with great songs. I'm going to be buying this for my friends, as many of them don't know exactly how awesome she is. I first saw her 10 years ago at the Wiltern, and I was blown away. I've been a fan since then and have yet to be disappointed in any of her work. A true artist.

Amazing

I didn't grow up listening to KD Lang.... Heard of her but never really took time to pay any attention. Then I saw her amazing performance for the Vancouver Olympic opening cermony.... Wow. Then I heard that the Olympic committee owned the rights and we would probably never get to own that performance for our iPods... Bummer. She just appeared on Jay Leno with one of her songs off of her Collections album... Jaw dropping. Very mesmerizing. I quickly went to iTunes to do research and was sold after two songs. Thank you KD for sharing with the world your gift.

When k.d. lang released her first major-label album in 1987, she caused considerable controversy within the traditional world of country music. With her vaguely campy approach, androgynous appearance, and edgy, rock-inflected music, very few observers knew what to make of her or her music, although no one questioned her considerable vocal talents. That confusion never quite dissipated over the course...
