iTunes Review

One of the most talented singers of any era, k.d. lang has flirted with so many styles that everyone has a different impression or preference towards her career. Some hear a gifted purebred country singer, while others hear a nightclub torch singer. Any of her studio albums shows off her vocal talents, but this collection does a fine job of bringing together some of her finest moments in one place. “Constant Craving” (which the Rolling Stones nicked for the chorus of “Has Anybody Seen My Baby”), perfect duets with Roy Orbison on “Crying,” Tony Bennett on “Moonglow” and Jane Siberry with “Calling All Angels,” and virtuoso performances of the Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers / The End” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” make a case for lang’s incredible versatility and show the respect that others hold for her in the recording industry. The Deluxe Edition includes live recordings from a radio broadcast at Malibu PAC that prove her talent is no fluke, as her stylized take on Neil Young’s “Helpless” is pretty, powerful and wild.

This is the real deal...

note to wannabe "country" singers, esp. 20 yr olds who receive numerous accolades, this is how a pro does it...

WOW - What A Voice!

I'm delighted to hear k.d. sing and as time goes by her voice becomes richer. I especially like "Crying" with Roy O. She includes many styles, covers are great and can sing them all with perfection. One complaint - I wish she released a standard album so it wouldn't be as expensive and not everyone wants live performances blended with many vidos. Also, she does a teriffic job with Hallelujah but if I hear one more version of that song I'll scream.

Wonderfully smooth

Kd has one of the smoothest voices out there. She makes every song sound like it's been written by a divine power. And the passion instilled in her voice soothes my troubled soul. Kd Lang is extremely unique in a world of female singer clones. I don't even like country music, but Kd's country is not your typical country, it's something totally serene. Considering serene and country don't usually go together, Kd pulls it off to perfection.

When k.d. lang released her first major-label album in 1987, she caused considerable controversy within the traditional world of country music. With her vaguely campy approach, androgynous appearance, and edgy, rock-inflected music, very few observers knew what to make of her or her music, although no one questioned her considerable vocal talents. That confusion never quite dissipated over the course of her career, even when she abandoned country music for torchy adult contemporary pop in 1992 with...
