Album Review

Eiffel 65's infectious club stylings on Contact are as catchy as their breakthrough album, Europop. The vocoder is still in place on songs like the funky gloss of "Lucky (In My Life)" and the hypnotic spacescapes of "Crazy" and "I DJ With the Fire." "Life Like Thunder" is ultra-hip with its disco beats and fashionable Euro-dance hooks. However, the blazing trance loops on "People of Tomorrow" showcase Eiffel 65's undeniable star power. Their sound isn't intricate, elegant, or sophisticated, but it's loose enough for clubland. Contact is a party album more than anything — nothing to be taken seriously.

Criminally overlooked

Eiffel 65 will unfortunately always be a one-hit wonder in America, which is a shame because they actually developed into full-fledged artists shortly after the U.S. stopped paying attention. While "Europop" was an album with a few good songs and a lot of filler, "Contact" is a collection of solid, individual pieces that make a very satisfying whole. While the band didn't reinvent itself, it had certainly evolved and matured in the making of this album. Many of the songs have a heavier feel to them than the songs from "Europop," especially "Brightly Shines," which is reminiscent of late-80's Depeche Mode. Fortunately, as they grew the band still retained their love for catchy hooks, and "Contact" is filled with them. My top 5: "Losing You," "Brightly Shines," "Faraway," "Journey," and "Johnny Gray." As was pointed out in another review, two songs are missing from this version of the album, "One Goal" and "80's Stars," which is a shame because "80's Stars" was one of the more unique tracks on the album. But even this somewhat altered version on iTunes is a must-have.

Sweet, but something is missing.

This is a fantastic album with great songs like "Crazy" and "Faraway", but some songs are missing like "80's Stars" and "One Goal". They were apparently replaced with new Remixes of "Lucky In My Life" and "Losing You" which are great songs, but still. I don't like that they took out one of the best songs ("80's Stars").

I have been listening to this album for YEARS! I'm sooo glad they put it on iTunes! Almost every song on here is worth listening too over and over! Life Like Thunder, Dj With the Fire, Lucky in my Life, and New Life are some of my favorite songs! Definatly a good buy!
