OH YEAH..feeling it

Totaly feeling "Feelin' It" Awesome composition...David you knocked it out of the park ! OUTSTANDING!!! Thanks

Great Variety, and a nod to the classics

LOVE this album. Kei's Song original was perfect, so it's hard to believe the "Redux" could improve on it. BUT Benoit delivers!! "Q's Motif" should be a movie/TV soundtrack theme. Great groove. All in all... another must-have for new and die-hard Benoit fans. "Conversation" has a hint of Vince Guaraldi influence, which shouldn't be a surprise. My only complaint with this recording is... too short!! I could have used another 45 minutes! :)

He phoned this one in

David didn't work very had on this album, literally. With only 30+ minutes of music (9 cuts, all between three and four minutes long) this looks and sounds like a release to meet the terms of his contract. David must also be suffering from A.D.D. because his songs bounce all over the place, as if he really can't decide what he's best at. How about this? No, I'll try that? Does this work?

Considering the man released 33 albums over a 35 year period (I know, I own most of them) he seems to have gone very stale. In fact, his last genius creation was "American Landscape", some fifteen years ago. He can do much better.

This album title "Conversation" connotes dialogue, exchange and substance. There is little of that here. A more apt title might be "Sentences".

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

One of the more popular performers in the idiom somewhat inaccurately called "contemporary jazz," David Benoit has mostly performed light melodic background music, what critic Alex Henderson has dubbed "new age with a beat." Benoit has done a few fine jazz projects (including a tribute to Bill Evans and a collaboration with Emily Remler) but most of his output for GRP has been aimed clearly at the charts. He studied composition and piano at El Camino College and, in 1975, played on the soundtrack...
