Editors’ Notes

Boston quintet New Edition put their silky harmonies and peppy, street-smart hooks front and center on their second album. Songs such as the longing, heartbroken “Mr. Telephone Man” and the sparkling “Lost in Love” hit soul’s sweet spot. But the group also dabble in fizzy electro-pop: The snappy “Cool It Now,” the playful “My Secret (Didja Get It Yet?),” and the jittery, freestyle-echoing “Kinda Girls We Like” serve as fresh, energetic counterpoints to the songs where they wear their hearts proudly on their sleeves.

Candy Girl?

Why are people asking Where is CANDY GIRL? Candy Girl was off of their first album, not this one which was their second. DUH! Anyway, what a great sophomore set this was. Oh the memories!!

Great Album by my favorite band

New Edition has always been a great band, whether they were doing Pop, R&B, or Rap. And this album proves it. Cool It Now-10 Possibly their best song of all time. Candy Girl is great, but this song topped it. Tresvant vocal is perfect. Plus don't forget about the Rap by Michael Bivens, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. No one in the today's business world could topped this Rap. Mr. Telephone Man-9.5 Oh man! People are going to hate me for not giving this a ten. I still think it's a great song. I'm Leaving You Again-9.5 A Great song that actually written by Ricky Bell and Ralph Tresvant. Beautiful music. Unfortuantely, Bow Wow and Ciara killed it when they sampled it. Baby Love-9 My least favorite song. But even this is a great song. Of course Tresvant voice in here is fantastic. Great backup by Bobby Brown. Delicious-10 My favorite song on this album. A great R&B tunes with another great singing by Ralph. My Secret-10 Love the song, love the video, love the singing, love the backup singing. Hide and Seek-9.5 A great song sung by Ralph and Bobby. Lost in Love-10 This is one of the most beautiful song New Edition have ever done. Perfect slow jam music right here. Perfect song to slow dance with your crush. Kinda Girls We Like-10 A fantastic song where everybody in the band just starting rapping. There are no singing, except for the chorus. These five young man rapping is way better than any rappers today. This rap song isn't about guns, violence, pimping, none of that. They were rapping about what they like in a girl. Maryann-9.5 Nice little Soul music put out by these five young man. Overall, this album is way better than most of the album that would be put out years after this one. I was about 14 or 15 when I bought this album a couple years ago. It sounded perfect back than. Now I'm 19 and this album still sounds as perfect. But if you wanna feel the greatness by these young man, you must by it during your teenage years. I did and this became one of my favorite album of all times. If you ever got the time, please buy this awsome record.

Formed: 1982 in Boston, MA

Genre: R&B/Soul

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

New Edition's early, Jackson 5-inspired material made them the forerunners of two generations of teen pop (most of which was geared to white audiences). As they matured and progressed, they laid much of the groundwork for the fusion of hip-hop and R&B known as new jack swing. In fact, after New Edition drifted apart, all of its members had at least some significant success outside the group as part of the new jack movement, which helped ensure that their original incarnation would be remembered for...
