Awesome Indy Sound

I love AAS's sound and songs. Got hooked almost immediately. Once you hear it, you'll want all the other songs!

I've been following AAS for years now and this album was a nice little treat. I wouldn't start with this album though if you're a newcomer to their music.

Cool Kids (Are Never Gonna Live Forever)

Beginning with how I found amanset. I subscribed to a Luna/Galaxie 500 message board in the early ‘90s. Members would recommend bands: Bedhead, Low, Idaho, Red House Painters and amanset featured prominently. Now I’m left scratching my head writing a review of a posthumously released set of amanset EP’s, demos, and unreleased songs. Spoiler alert: I am biased. Critical thinking aside, amanset created a sound signature using polished guitars, hushed vocals, and a rock-steady rhythm section. As the title suggests “Hard To Find…” will fill the void of longtime fans left wanting. For the uninitiated, this comp presents a style of music most deserving for the patiently rewarded and immediately perceptive. Like the “The Updates EP” the band demonstrates an inclination to deconstruct, recreate and innovate. From the snare pops and cymbal crashes, to the vibes and sparse snyths--this trance inducing collection are waters that run still but deep. Despite the naysayers that pull the ‘one trick pony’ sound card, check the disparity between “Choir Vandals (Demo)” versus “Cool Kids Keep (EP Version)”, amanset possess more than one gear underneath the hood. At the core of “Hard To Find…” is a highlight reel of the band occupying a tight, intuitive groove gestalt. Like a time honored jazz ensemble—amplified.

A drone-pop quartet hailing from Austin, TX, the American Analog Set evolved from the ashes of Dallas' Electric Company in 1994. After Electric Company's demise, guitarist/vocalist Andrew Kenny, keyboardist Lisa Roschmann, and drummer Mark Smith reunited to cut a number of impromptu four-track recordings that ultimately led to their decision to re-form as a group. The addition of bassist Lee Gillespie followed, and the quartet renamed themselves the American Analog Set before preparing for their...
