Raw and wild

This was actually recorded when they were still called The Sparrow. It's about as rough a document as it gets, right next door to a bootleg recording, but everything is there that will be Steppenwolf, and then some. The hot, in-your-face, reverb-free sound emphasizes how flat-out hard everyone is playing, and John Kay sings like the Devil himself. This was one of my first rock and roll albums and I played it to death. The 20 minute plus, psychedelic, weird version of The Pusher took up all of side two and is still something to hear even now. A great band in their early days, powerful and possessed. Check it out.
