A Must Have- almost

I am a basie enthusiast, and i must say, this may be my favorite album i own. the only way this could get better would be to add corner pocket and april in paris. These songs are both widely available, so it is not a problem. if you are new to basie, get this album and those two songs. if you are a veteran to basie, then this is a must have. basie swings harder then ever, and with lester young, the most prominant tenor of this era, you just cannot get any better...

Excellent.

The Count at his best. Jam-packed with jazz icons galore, this album is great fun. Besides, you just can't beat a live jazz recording from the 50's. For those new to Bassie, this is a first-class introduction. For seasoned Bassie enthusiasts, this album definietly delivers - and then some.

The Best

I listened to Count Basie's "Smack Dab in the Middle" today and I listened to it nine times afterwards. I am stil listening to it. I had bought a group of songs about a week ago and had not listened to this one. I don't have very many Jazz songs on my i-pod, but this one is awesome. I really like jazz now. I created a new playlist with it as # 1 accompanied afterwards by really upbeat Latin party music. It is a really good combo, but I like the Jazz better. I am part of the teenagers of the 21st Century who have never attempted to listen to jazz before.
