A Lost Treasure

Jimmie Driftwood was a real American treasure, keeping early American folk songs alive. This is a good sampling of his work, but how it can be called "The Best of" and not include his most famous song, "Battle of New Orleans", is beyond me. Yes, Johnny Horton made it famous, but Driftwood wrote it, and frankly, his version is better than Horton's.

Jimmie Driftwood was almost an anachronism in the years he was at his commercial peak, from 1957 through 1961.
