K'naan is Actual Rap

K'naan isn't the person that talks about clubbing and getting girls and wasting money. He talks about stuff that actually matters. Don't get this if you are expecting a Solider Boy kind of song. The album, all in all, is amazing.

So, so good.

I was already a K'naan fan, so I grabbed this without listening to any of it first. I was pretty busy and didn't have a chance to listen to it, but when I was working late one night I remembered I'd downloaded it and fired up Country, God, or the Girl.

Sweet merciful crap... if you can listen to the first song ("The Seed") and not want to buy the album there is something wrong with you. Seriously, go to a doctor and get checked. I'm not one of those reviewers who can break the whole album down track by track, but I can say that I was immediately struck by how good it was. That never happens to me. Normally I have to listen to an album a few times to get a vibe for it but this was an instant win straight out of the gate.

Absolutely worth a full album purchase. Don't piddle around with song-by-song downloads.

So good.

well, It's growing on me...

I loved Dusty Foot Philosopher and Troubadour. Loved the beat, the music, and especially that he pulled that off with lyrics that could be read as poetry. Couldn't wait for K'naan to produce a new album and bought it without listening first. I have to admit, the first time I listened to it, I hated it. Gave it a few listens as it's the only thing I had on my iPod for a long run, and it's growing on me. I still like the other two albums better, but I no longer regret buying this one. I appreciate that he sings about real things, takes the time to write lyrics that read as poetry as well as they are sung, and has come out of a crazy-tough situation to make something of himself…a great artist to support.
