Melodic compositions, technically brilliant!

This guy is an amazing player and technically stunning, much like other top modern fingerstyle masters. What sets him apart for me are his melodic compositions. He's not all about guitar pyrotechnics--though there are plenty of those--but is an incredible composer who incorporates diverse influences like rock and blues grooves, traditional Italian folk, or even bluegrass banjo. These don't sound like the uninspired finger-exercises or new-age muzak that charaterizes some of the players in this genre. Instead, these are lyrically rich compositions that come from someone with a deep knowledge of music and it's history and the technical expertise to pull off stunning guitar playing.

It should be noted, for instance, 'Why Not?' is mostly played with his left hand only up on the neck of the guitar. I have seem many play passages with their fret hand, but a whole song...? What a performance.

After only a few lessons, D'Agostino decided that he could teach himself and began learning Italian pop and flamenco songs. By the age of 18, he was reading music and composing solo material. His first album, Bluerba, was released in Italy in 1981 and he soon became known for his incredible technical skill. After...
