iTunes Review

This goodtime North Carolina-based group liberally blends the roots of country, rockabilly, surf, blues and kitsch culture until it’s one big party anthem where everyone’s invited to sing along. This collection of crossover country hits is given a rawboned delivery that makes “(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden” as urgent and savage as “Wolverton Mountain” and “Oh Lonesome Me.” And it isn’t just country tunes recast here. T. Rex’s “Life’s A Gas,” the Byrds’ “Have You Seen Her Face“ and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Tombstone Shadow” are twisted through the SCOTS retro-processor and driven through the swamp of hyperactive rhythms and extra-skrotched guitars. The groove never relents and the guitars are recorded with maximum presence. They’ve remained playful and irreverent but never skewer a song to the point of ironic parody, despite the band’s tongue-in-cheek non de plume. SCOTS play with contagious, infectious enthusiasm.

If you are not familiar with this band take a listen. They have the best male and female voices I have ever herd. They are truly talented musicians and their lyrics are so different they can’t make this stuff up, they had to have been there. What a great album!

perfect covers

What a treat to pick up the new SCOTS release. Each song is amazingly tight. If you have ever seen this band, this will be your new favorite SCOTS recording. Funnel of Love is a great example of Mary Huff's vocal range. Great record.

Finger Lickin' Good

Just saw them in Orlando and it was so good I had to see them again in Tampa the next night. Great album.

True to their name, North Carolina's Southern Culture on the Skids offers an affectionate parody of local white-trash trailer-park culture, matching their skewed outlook with a wild, careening brand of rock & roll. SCOTS' music is a quintessentially Southern-fried amalgam of rockabilly, boogie, country, blues, swamp pop, and chitlin circuit R&B, plus a liberal dose of California surf guitar, a hint of punk attitude, and the occasional mariachi horns. Following an early incarnation as a relatively...
