I planned to listen to the iTunes samples and buy this record later for reasons I'll discuss below. But the sample stopped and I had to have it playing in my house immediately. So I downloaded.

Sarah's voice stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard it. To call this record a beautiful showcase for her voice wouldn't give due credit to the songs and the simple but effective arrangements herein. But you do get to hear her voice in all its delicate glory throughout. Comparisons to Dolly Parton seem obvious, but never does she sound like a sound-a-like or top notch imitator. Sarah's tone and effortless and expression-filled melismas do recall sweet Dolly for all the right reasons. But beyond that, she's mastered the art of simply singing the words, telling the story and sharing a feeling. It just happens that her voice drips silver.
