Editors’ Notes

Born and raised in London to English and Iraqi parents, Lowkey started putting out mixtapes in 2003 and released his first album, Dear Listener, in 2009. His bold, message-filled lyricism is impossible to ignore, as he sounds off against racism, sexism, ignorance, imperialism, corruption, corporate greed, and general abuse of power. Peppered with skits drawn from U.S. political debates and Real Time with Bill Maher, among other sources, Soundtrack to the Struggle also finds Lowkey connecting with like-minded artists like Immortal Technique ("Voice of the Voiceless"), Klashnekoff ("Blood, Sweat and Tears"), and M1 ("Obama Nation Pt. 2"). To be sure, this isn't your usual radio rap. But if you're dismayed with the direction of the world today and still love hip-hop but miss the protest-fueled messages of acts like Public Enemy, Paris, and The Coup, this is exactly what you've been waiting for.

Unbelievable. Most listened to album on my entire iTunes and i have almost 8,000 songs. Soundtrack To The Struggle (title track) is my absolute favorite. I LOVE this album. I listen to atleast 2 or 3 songs from it every day. Lowkey is so passionate about what he says and it comes out in his music. His vocabulary and his flow just gets me. He has an angry flow, but is a gentle and calm person at the same time. Lowkey cannot be compared to anybody except Immortal Tech, and those two will be my all time favorite artists. The title track is so powerful and the chorus is so haunting it just makes you want to listen more. And the music video is even better! Lowkey is deemed #2 hip hop artist behind the impecable Immortal Technique in my opinion. Voices of the Voiceless is the without a doubt best duo song I've ever heard. Lowkey has such a positive message to say. People need to listen. Share this with everyone you know if you have this album. Can't wait for Lowey to release more music!! Revolutionary hip hop for life!!

Years Active: '00s, '10s

With his own unique take on racism, war, and global political issues, rapper and activist (and member of several supergroups) Lowkey has emerged as one of the British hip-hop scene's most outspoken artists. Born Kareem Dennis in London in 1986 to an Iraqi mother and English father, he first started rapping at the age of 12 and, after competing at various open-mike sessions on Carnaby Street, won an MC battle to earn the name of Lowkey. Despite generating buzz with his 2003 Key to the Game mixtape,...
