iTunes Review

There’s an adventuresome spirit coursing through Michelle Branch’s Everything Comes and Goes, her first solo project since 2003’s Hotel Paper. This engaging EP is both an extension of her country-slanted work as one half of the Wreckers and a return to the self-revelatory focus of her early albums. Branch’s parenting experiences and career upheavals over the past few years are reflected in the hard-won wisdom heard in these tunes. Producers John Leventhal and John Shanks surround her with spacious, acoustic-oriented tracks, highlighted by keening pedal-steel guitars and rippling banjos. The bittersweet reverie “Summertime” and the thoughtful lullaby “Crazy Ride” are sparkling country-pop numbers. Branch flashes a tougher attitude on the biting “Ready to Let You Go” and the empowering “Sooner or Later,” reclaiming some of the alt-rock energy found in her pre-Nashville days. Her deepening strengths as a singer are captured in “I Want Tears” and the title tune, a pair of emotionally resonant ballads.

it's enjoyable, but I miss her old sound

her lyrics are just as amazing as before, though I wish her sound was more like it was before, the best songs on this EP are Sooner or Later, I Want Tears and Everything Comes and Goes. personally, I do love those songs, I hope her forthcoming album is amazing :)

really liked her as pop/rock...

I understand that Michelle may have wanted a change and to experiment with a new sound, which is totally fine and admirable. After all, it is HER music and she can write/sing whatever kind she wants...BUT BUT BUT...I really liked her sound on Hotel Paper the best. I am not sure if she will ever be able to top that one because I absolutely loved it. Her voice is still beautiful, but I honestly don't care much for the country music. If you are not really a country music fan, you might not like it...but still listen to the samples and decide for yourself.

Yes please.

Awesome voice. Amazing writer. I can't wait for more!! And a tour!!!

Although she rose to fame during the teen pop era, Michelle Branch — who was 17 years old when her debut album, The Spirit Room, began its double-platinum run in 2001 — modeled her own songs after iconic alt-rock females like Lisa Loeb and Melissa Etheridge. Raised in Arizona, Branch sang throughout her childhood but didn’t pick up the guitar until her 14th birthday, when she received the instrument as a gift. Within a week, she’d written her first song. Branch’s parents eventually decided...
