Album Review

In a genre with a laundry list of cookie-cutter bands all fighting to grab the attention of a young audience, sometimes distinguishing yourself is a matter of degrees. On their debut full-length, Motionless in White attempt to do just that. Delivering a heavy-hitting does of horror themed metalcore, Creatures finds the band exploring a more gothic sound. With lots of breakdowns, reverse drum swells, good cop/bad cop vocals, and bass bombs, there’s a lot about the album that feels pretty much by the book. Where Motionless in White are able to make it interesting is in the use of their electronic elements. Rather than going for the usual dance-pop sound, the band uses their synthesizers to create a dark and uneasy atmosphere. This blend of the frightening and the familiar gives Creatures not only the ability to draw fans in with something they’ll immediately click with, but which will keep them coming back for another helping.

Customer Reviews

I thought it wasn't possible...

After buying Asking Alexandria's Stand Up and Scream right when it came out in 2009, I knew a lot of bands would follow in the footsteps of that band when they became popular. Believe or not, many bands did. After the whole electronic/synth post-hardcore scene took the stage, I started to notice many bands would do EXACTLY what other bands would do with their synthesizers and such. Now to get to the actual review...Motionless In White is a band I never thought I would enjoy. After listening to Creatures, I have concluded two things. One, they are the one band I have seen in a hell of a long time that does something different than anyone else, and two, I was wrong. Throwing in a blend of Atreyu style clean vocals, mixed with great gothic low and high screams, Motionless In White has the perfect vocals for what they do best: horror. All of the songs on this record are focused on creepy, horror filled lyrics, and what do they do so well to compliment this? The synth. They dont use it for your average pop dance crap that fills almost every post-hardcore band now. They use it to make their songs sound more terrifying, as if you were in a horror movie. An absoulutely brilliant beginnning to an up and coming band, that will mark the start to a great career. Keep up the good work guys!

Perfection

This album is a work of art! I love it! There is literally not one that I don't like. Chris' clean vocals are amazing and his screaming is very genuine. It's very dark and that's one of the reasons I like it so much. Definitely worth buying.

Their best by far

1 of my favorite CDs. Great breakdowns, catchy chorus',+ sick synth and vocals. Amazing technically too

Biography

Formed: 2005 in Scranton, PA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s, '10s

While their hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania is mostly known in popular culture for being perfectly mundane, gothic metalcore band Motionless in White make music that's anything but tame. Blending the raw fury of metalcore with the dramatic atmospherics of goth-metal and industrial, the band has cultivated a dark and moody sound that owes as much to Type O Negative as it does to Slayer. Formed in 2005 while members Chris Cerulli (vocals), Angelo Parente (drums), Mike Costanza (guitar), and Frank...
