Three great songs! A must have.
OK, so I'll start by admitting a weakness for female-fronted alternative rock. Also kudos have to be given for the rather distinctive art work from Mark Ryden used on the cover. Three songs is brutally short, at under ten minutes. But, anything doing is worth doing right..and this a flawless 3 song preview of things to come. They combine a thousand influences and come off as shoe-gazers, edgy, and mysterious...all likable attributes. The guitars swirl all around your head ala My Bloody Valentine, almost atmospheric, it's enchanting. This is a long way from music to sleep to, though. Jessicka's voice doesen't even sound real, it reminds me of a fragile doll. Upon thinking this she breaks quickly and violently. I'm mad, downright furious that they could leave us like this...a ten minute glimpse, and gone. Alas, they have left one hole in me that a band aid won't cover for now. Band Aid Covers The Bullet Hole - Other than having such an intriguing name, the first thing that sprang to mind when I head this track was "Lush turned evil". It skillfully mixes a seemingly jolly verse with a harsher guitar laden chorus. Jessicka spouts the Scarface staple "Say Hello to my Little Friend" and as her voice trembles through the voice box, you realize how unforgettable and amazing this is. H/C - Gets going straight away and doesn't stop. A pretty decent track in itself - the kind that makes your foot start tapping - very Interpol-ish. (even though BCTBH was released in 2003) Creep - Well, I like the Radiohead version, and I always think that you shouldn't do a cover unless you've got something new to bring to the track. Scarling do that admirably, with Jessicka providing a both a sweet and distorted, anguished vocal performance, against a crashing guitar backdrop. A great 3 songs. A must have!
Excellent version of Radiohead's Creep !
When I first bought this CD in 2003, I found it absolutely amazing. It's an interesting introduction to Scarling. - a band whom would later be in my head and in my CD player VERY often. The title track Band Aid Covers the Bullet Hole, makes you want to scream, cry, or just sit on your bedroom floor in awe of the emotion this music can evoke. Even if you've heard the songs before, I suggest you buy them here- At the least the cover of Radiohead's Creep - EXCELLENT cover version- well done!!! It is much more polished than the mp3 versions you'll find anywhere else. For all of you who have enjoyed Jessicka back in her JOJ days, she's certainly back. Though she has grown up, her lyrics and voice are still incredible. I can hardly find words to describe how amazing this band is, you just have to hear them for yourselves.
It All Started Here
Back in 2000/2001 fans of a VERY dead Jack off Jill heard a new term to salivate for: scarling. It would be several years before a live performance and a few more before something was distributed for mass consumption. When it came it was on some old thing called a "record" and when one was able to procure the archaic means by which to use it the most painful sounds of beauty consumed all in their path. Released roughly a year before the "Sweet Heart Dealer" LP, we are treated to THREE songs not present on that LP. Band Aid Covers the Bullet Hole - Most accessible song as they blossomed, this song is different than the LP cut... It features a much more effective "Robots steal emotions/hide them under their beds" than the LP version "Robots steal narcotics..." H/C - You can hear the rough transition from JoJ rage to scarling.'s more mellow and tortured sound. Creep - Listen for the sounds of shattering dollar store pottery.
