Not a Novelty

I was originally drawn to Bonerama by the idea of an all-trombone band playing Whipping Post. After a minute or two, the novelty wore off. What was left was an absolutely AWESOME band. Incredible musicianship. All bandmembers are first-rate. Very creative arrangements. The rock standards are a lot of fun, and they ROCK HARD. The original tunes and instrumentals are excellent as well. I personally like Chilcock and Shake Your Rugulator. For musicians, this CD is a clinic in well-paced improvisation, creative and expressive ensemble skills, and the unique, yet perfectly natural sound of the trombone as a lead, electric instrument. As good as this CD is, they are 10 times better live. I went to see them with the idea of hearing one set. After an hour and half I kept saying to myself "one more song." Two hours and fifteen minutes after the first note (way past my bedtime on a weeknight), I left the club blown away. An absolute must see if they come to your town.
