Reseña de álbum

Granted, the four separate versions of Viva! La Woman's sublime "Sugar Water" are unnecessary, but the rest of the material on Cibo Matto's follow-up EP Super Relax is superb. No longer relying solely on Yuka Honda's slice-and-dice samples, the duo's sound is considerably more organic this time out; "Spoon" locks into an infectious groove worthy of Luscious Jackson, while the live "BBQ" is breathlessly manic. The highlights, however, are the two covers: the first, a rendition of Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Aguas de Marco" (also found on the benefit LP Red Hot and Latin) opens up a vast new global playground of exotic textures and rhythms for the group to romp around in, while their exemplary take on the Stones' "Sing This All Together" proves Honda and vocalist Miho Hatori are equally capable of tackling straightforward rock and roll.

I agree, they will be missed.

Yeah , I haven't heard from them in some time so I see this and get all excited and then get equally disappointed especially since I didn't know they officially broke-up. I know Yuka Honda had done a solo album (too trancy for me) but still. Sci-Fi Wasabi is still one my favorite songs of all time and all of Viva is extraordinary. Long Live Crazy Food!!!

Love Cibo Matto but...

I Love Cibo Matto but after a long time of listening to the same stuff you naturaly crave something new. Since Cibo Matto disbanded a few years ago and no new songs have or will be written there music will be almost be forgotten, except for the few people who are newly discovering them. And since I have listened to all there songs far to many times, all that is left for me to say is, "Cibo Matto were good while they lasted, but since I am done listening, good by C.M."

A Japanese-born duo relocated to New York and christened with an Italian band name, Cibo Matto's music mirrored the melting-pot aesthetics of their origins, resulting in a heady brew of funk samples, hip-hop rhythms, tape loops, and fractured pop melodies all topped off by surreal narratives sung in a combination of French and broken English. Cibo Matto comprised vocalist Miho Hatori and keyboardist/sampler Yuka Honda, a pair of expatriate Japanese women who arrived in the U.S. independently. Honda,...
