Editors’ Notes

This pianist/vocalist marked the transition from recognizable jazz artist to international star with 1998's When I Look in Your Eyes, which featured orchestral accompaniment on eight of the 13 songs. Released three years later, The Look of Love increases the elegance by having either the London Symphony Orchestra or session string and woodwind players in Los Angeles on all 10 tracks. Krall added a Brazilian element to her repertoire, heard on a bossa nova–informed take on the Gershwin brothers’ “S’Wonderful” and the gem “Besame Mucho,” which she sings in its original Portuguese. Guitarists Dori Caymmi and Romero Lubambo are on hand, as is her then-regular bandmate Russell Malone. Bassist Christian McBride and drummers Jeff Hamilton or Peter Erskine round out the rhythm section, and Clause Ogerman’s arrangements—so agile on “Dancing in the Dark” and the Bacharch/David title track—shine throughout.

Perfection IMO!

This is my most favorite Chill CD.
It is my favorite Diana Krall CD by far.
I am still listening to it and loving it in 2012 -- and I've had it since it first came out in 2001!
I cannot pick out a favorite song because they are all my favorites.

By the turn of the century she was firmly established as one of the biggest sellers in jazz. Her 1996 album, All for You, was a Nat King Cole tribute that showed the singer/pianist's roots,...
