Stitches Indeed

I've been greatly anticipating the follow up to HF's dazzling debut "A Voluntary Coincidence."
& really? I'm not disappointed. However, I'm also not enthralled. "Stitches" is a challenging, engaging body of work. Also, its feel & atmospheres are far different from that of "Voluntary."
This however, is a two-edged sword. While "Stiches" shows no repeated styles from their debut, it also doesn't feature the catchy & addictive hooks either. Its more rock than club. Sadly.

"Sitting On the Moon" is pretty delightful. It really showcases the new textures of HF's sound.
Also, Noemi's voice is great on it. "Your Killer Toy" is an engaging and energetic listen. Very powerful. Great vocals. "Love Like Aliens" is one of the more interesting listens on the album, although not my favorite. Its intro is a gem, as are its pre-choruses, but the verses & choruses feel kind of lacking. "Crystal Bullet" is probably my least liked song from this album. Its got some nice synths in the choruses, but that's about it. "Friendly Strangers" is a pretty solid listen, although not very memorable. I've heard it at least 8 times & I still can't remember how it goes. "Hybrid Moments," another killer song on the album! The synths & vocals are fantastic! As is the lyrical content. "Don't Wake Me Up" is a very heavy piece. Very engaging. The first verse is perfection. The rest isn't quite on the same level. "Psychic Vamp" is easily one of the best songs ever made. The lyrics are great, as are the vocals. The bridge is nice, & the synth motif is absolutely wicked. "Never Enough" is another great track. Nice lyrics. Very light feeling. A nice change of pace in the album. "As Angels Spying Mars" is well executed. Its synthlines are good, guitar's fine. Vocals are nice as well. Just not my favorite HF piece.

All in all, "Stitches" is a solid album, drawing roots from its predecessor "Disconnection." While devoid of the absurdly infectious hooks that fill songs like "Alice In My Chamber" and "E-Race Generation," the album is still a tasteful and well-written body of work. Its just a slower, calmer chapter in the pages of Helalyn history.
