iTunes Review

The idea of a collaboration between traditionalist Senegalese musicians Baaba Maal and Mansour Seck—with added electric embellishments by Aziz Dieng—sets hopes pretty high. With these players’ reputations preceding them, we expect layer upon layer of intricate guitar interplay. Luckily, this album does not disappoint: These expert musicians pick their way to ecstasy on tunes like the entrancing "Lam Tooro," the emotive "Maacina Tooro," and the awesomely complex "Muudo Hormo"—songs that explore the origins of blues and jazz sounds with rapturous splendor.

The first time I heard this I was blown away! I bought this and several other cds by Baaba Maal. This remains one of my all time favorites. My favorites are; Lam Tooro, Muudo Hormo, Salminanam and Djam Leelii (not necessarily in that order). They are all good and some are sublime.

I Just Love This Album

Mansour Seck's solo effort is really beautiful as well, also one of the most talented blind musicians to ever record as far as I'm concerned. This release stands out from other Baaba Maal albums which have much more instrumentation including a pantheon of drummers. This acoustic guitar and lightly percussive album really highlights the essence of songs that would be recorded on later albums. But this album and Baayo are two of my all-time favourite guitar albums. It's right in there with releases Ali Farka Toure's "African Blues" and Bajourou's "BIg String Theory."

Great Human music

This is a wonderful creation. Once again Baaba Maal astonishes me with very warm and heartfelt music. This is music from the soul. This is music from the heart!! I highly recomend it

Genre: World

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

A superstar in his native Senegal, spiritual pop singer Baaba Maal was not even born to be a performer -- in West African culture, tradition dictates that the ancient griot caste must produce the singers and storytellers, and Maal was born in the city of Podor in 1953 into the fisherman's caste. Despite his parents' insistence that he become a lawyer, he grew up surrounded by music, absorbing both the traditional sounds of the region as well as American R&B and soul, later discovering jazz and blues....
