Album Review

Kevin Denney comes across as a clean-cut singer on the cover of his eponymous debut album, and it is true that the album is crisply produced and clean. But that only applies to his image, not the whole of his music. Yes, some of his ballads may be so sweeping that they could fit on adult contemporary radio, but on the whole, he has enough country in him to keep this record not just interesting, but enjoyable. He shouldn't be seen as a gritty singer, but there's a twang in his voice and a punch to his delivery that gives mid-tempo numbers and rockers — even sincere ballads like "Daddy Was a Navy Man" — resonance. The thing is, while there are mild moments along the way, there is a lot of spark here, particularly when Denney keeps to clean, straightforward country that's tuneful and twangy — and he does it enough to make this a satisfying debut.

Customer Reviews

Some people would say that Kevin Denney isn't George Strait. I agree. But there are very few artits who are in George Strait's league, so I feel that that is an unfair comparrison. George Strait is one of a kind. He has a great voice, and his songs seem to stick to a traditional-based sound. I can remember hearing "That's Just Jessie" when it was new, but I never really thought much about it. Then, about 2 or 3 years later, I heard the song again. I don't know why, but I suddenly loved that song! I decded to check into his other music, but this was the only other CD I could find. i bought the album, and discovered that all of his other songs are also pretty good, though "That's Just Jessie" remains my favorite. If you are a fan of traditional country artists, like George Strait, Alan Jackson, Dierks Bently, or George Jones, then you'll love Kevin Denney. I know I did!

★★★★★★, yes, 6 stars.

If your reading this your probably thinking of booking him for a small gig. Do it. If you dont enjoy him 110% I will refund your money. I dont fully understand why there was never a second cd, this is so much better than 98% of country music out there. My mail is at a yahoo site, dut65, hint hint.

In my Top Five albums of all time!

Kevin Denney is one-of-a-kind. This album has gotten me through more than one heartbreak, and it is a testament to country music lovers out there that there is still music that tells a story and can touch you to your very core. That's what Kevin Denney does and his voice is the best voice in Nashville. I should know, I know him personally and live in Nashville myself. If you buy this entire album, you WILL NOT regret it! KRD is a rare tallent that diserves a chance and if you let him into your ear and into your heart, you will forever be changed. I will guarantee that!
