137 Songs, 11 Hours 26 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Long considered one of the greatest metal albums of all time, Metallica’s 1986 opus was also their last with bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed just a few months after its release. This behemoth collection includes newly remastered versions of classic album cuts like the throttling “Battery,” the excoriating anti-war anthem “Disposable Heroes,” and the killer space-prog instrumental “Orion.” But it's the more than 100 additional live tracks, demos, and “work in progress” recordings—including raw early versions of Master of Puppets songs from guitarist James Hetfield’s personal riff tapes—that really put this one over the edge.
