Horses of many colours

Now and again there comes a group of artists who pick up the mantle of a particular musical genre either by choice or by fate. There are also even rarer acts who get categorized prematurely, and Barley Station proves with their sophomore effort to be that rarest of groups. Their first installment, the critically acclaimed AFTER ALL placed them in the aisles of country and western. This new album gives a nod to that sound with songs like "10 Nights" and "Goodnight Mary" (the first with such rich imagery you can taste it and the latter is a real barn burner). And no Barley Station experience is complete without a token country waltz ("Safe Return"). Beyond these looks back to their rural Missouri and Texas roots the album brings with it a sound that says "we've got a house to clean."

The album kicks off with the title track which is difficult to describe. It is part folk, part gospel, part beat poetry but well agreed it is all Barley Station. "No Breaking Ground" follows as the ultimate partner in the 1-2 punch opening sequence. All throughout the vocals of composers Belt & Kious shine in PET SOUNDS style chorales to compliment this band's smart use of mandolins, synthesizers, bowed bass guitars and even a little departure from their organic approach with tasteful flourishes of programmed pulses.

The first track available on pre-release day, "Younger Summer Memories", is an intelligent mixture of jubilant pluperfect pop and country yet it's ultimate meaning lends to an overwhelming theme of human intention gone astray. More sonic surprises await as DAMAGED GOODS is 5 stars from start to finish! The first contender for 2013 top album accolades has arrived!

Great Job !!!

I love all of the songs! Keep up the good work!

Perfect listening

There is such a refreshing quality to their sound, and the originality just shines through in the music they make. Just put on some headphones and take in the wonderful songs on this album, you will be impressed with what you hear, I know I have been.
