Reseña de álbum

Rather than attempt to produce a studio album that would fit in with the times, Fogelberg released an excellent live album, Greetings from the West. Fogelberg has the ability to put on a great show, although some of the tour dates and nights don't quite live up to par for unexplained reasons. Fortunately, this two-CD set is excellent and includes a wide sweep of the music of his career. Although the backing band hardly includes household names, the musicianship is top-notch. Hearing all of these songs together in one sitting is to be reminded of just how good a songwriter Fogelberg is. The connection between him and his audience is genuine, and the emotional intensity is occasionally quite moving. The set also frequently brings forth more of Fogelberg's rock side and shows him to be an adept and energetic artist whose music should not be confined to the soft rock bins. A definite rebirth and a fine live outing.

Correction to the iTunes Review

Though Greetings From The West (and its video counterpart, available on DVD - PLEASE add to iTunes!!!) did follow Dan's last album of the eighties (Exiles) by about four years as the official review states, it also was the immediate follow-up to Fogelberg's outstanding studio release, The Wild Places, and was filmed during that tour. In fact, several of the songs from The Wild Places figure prominently on this live release, with the title track (the concert opener) and Rhythm Of The Rain allowing Fogelberg to show off his considerable electric lead guitar skills, and The Spirit Trail being one of his most earnest rock numbers ever (right up there with Face The Fire). Balance this with a beautiful solo-acoustic set, and a few new songs Fogelberg never released on studio albums (a pair of blues numbers, plus the haunting Cry In The Forest), and you see how this is a "must have" release. A surprise guest appearance by Tim Weisberg (Fogelberg's flautist collaborator from 1978's Twin Sons Of Different Mothers) is icing on the cake. Outstanding live recording...

A great talent who will be missed.

This is Dan Fogelberg at his very best. What a loss to all of us who loved his music. RIP Dan.

One of my favorite albums of my childhood...

It's Dan like it should be.

If James Taylor epitomized the definition and the original, late-'60s incarnation of the term singer/songwriter, Dan Fogelberg exemplified the late-'70s equivalent of that term at its most highly developed and successful, with a string of platinum-selling albums and singles into the early '80s and a long career afterward, interrupted only by a health crisis that led to his untimely death in 2007. He came out of a musical family, born Daniel Grayling Fogelberg on August 13, 1951, in Peoria, IL, where...
